Desta Tedros, Harvard Law School '13, President
Before coming to Harvard Law School, Desta spent several years in New York City working in independent film. During her time in the industry, Desta worked on a variety of films, from shoestring productions to major motion pictures, in a variety of capacities. Additionally, she also wrote and directed her first feature, which is currently in the final stages of post-production and is intended for the festival circuit this year. At Harvard, Desta remains dedicated to finding the intersection of law and film in her career, and is currently working on a variety of video projects with other students, faculty, and organizations.
Jake Beech, Harvard College '14, Vice President
Jake is a junior at Harvard College. His passion for film and video production has spanned many years and led him to produce a variety of projects with subjects ranging from comedic to political. In his spare time he enjoys stargazing, playing the cello, and talking about the meaning of life.
Alexandra Gliga, Harvard Law School '14, Treasurer
Alexandra is a 2L at HLS who has been in love with movies for a long time. She previously worked in finance, went to grad school and directed several shorts and hopes to always find room for movies in her future life as a lawyer.
Zamyla Chan, Harvard College '14, Web Director
Zamyla is a junior at the College studying Engineering and Computer Science, and is excited about the potential for the Documentary Studio to support the digital humanities. In her spare time, Zamyla enjoys ballroom dancing and aspires to be an Iron Chef.
Shawna English, Harvard Law School '13, Community Engagement Director
Shawna is a second-year student at Harvard Law School, and is originally from central Pennsylvania. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2009 with a major in Business Management. She looks forward to being a part of the Documentary Studio and exploring her interest in documentary filmmaking.
Sheema Golbaba, Harvard College '14, Technical Director
With a mix of athletics, academics, culture, and voluntarism while growing up in Oklahoma, Sheema found a particular passion for the arts and people. With the inexplicably tremendous support of family, by age sixteen she saw one of her documentary films air on C-Span for the first time. Since then, her films exploring international politics, lost history, and child abuse have screened in various venues. Golbaba was a 2010 YoungArts Cinematic Arts Finalist and US Presidential Scholar in the Arts Nominee.
Instead of matriculating at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Golbaba decided to attend Harvard to achieve a liberal arts education. At Harvard, she is pursuing a joint degree in Sociology and Film/Video Production. Sheema is enthusiastic to support the unforgettable experiences in store for HLDOCS this upcoming year, and hopes to contribute to the organization's success as a whole.
Dov Kogen, Harvard Law School '13, Music Director
After releasing a couple of albums during his collegiate years as a singer-songwriter, Dov founded an audio production company and spent three years working with many different genres of music prior to enrolling at Harvard Law School in 2010. He is very excited to be working with many talented individuals who seek to realize their creative visions.
Jake Levine, Harvard Law School '13, Business Director
Before coming to Harvard Law School, Jake spent time working for President Obama, first on the campaign trail, and then in the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change. Last summer, Jake worked at the energy efficiency startup Opower and spent a week at the Maine Media Workshops practicing cinematography.
